I want you to be a millionaire

I’ve never met someone that didn’t want to be a millionaire.

Ahhh, the things we could do, the things we could buy, the places we could visit.

When I was younger my idea of wealth was a McMansion and Porsche in the driveway, and a beach house to escape to on the weekend.

Kids in private schools, fancy clothes, dinners at expensive restaurants. A fancy corporate job.

I thought those things would make me happy.

What I didn’t see behind the scenes is the repayments for the mortgages, the car loan for an ‘asset’ that depreciates 60% in 5 years, destroying your wealth.

Nor did I see the stress of working 80 hours a week to go home to a family that had every material desire met and then some, but didn’t know who their parents were.

For most, the millionaire lifestyle comes as a huge cost, and that is your time and energy.

We only have so much time in life, and our energy levels become quickly depleted. All that money doesn’t count for anything if you don’t have the time and energy to enjoy it along the way.

As I matured, I learnt that what I really wanted was freedom....The freedom to choose what I do each day.

To me, the desire to choose my own work hours, to choose where I live my life, to choose what kind of work I do and how I add value to the world, is now more important to me than having the typical millionaire lifestyle.

The motivation to have more life balance has grown even further since I had my first child (but perhaps that will change over time and I will be happy to go to work to get a reprieve!). While my idea of lifestyle and material possessions has changed over time, the goal of being a financially successful hasn’t.

I’ve just changed what I would do with the money.

Rather than buying material possessions, what if you saved your dollars and lived off the investment returns?

Not only would you not reduce your capital, you could do amazing things such:

  • Take overseas holidays every year with the family

  • Pay for your children’s education through your investments

  • Reduce your work hours to get a better work life balance (you may even be able to retire completely if your living expenses are low enough)

Or how about telling your boss you’re not coming in to work tomorrow?

Or having the confidence to start your own business, knowing that you’ve got the financial backing and investments paying you income consistently?

Imagine how much bigger we would live our lives if we didn’t have to worry about the next pay cheque?

That’s why I want you to be a millionaire. But it’s not just about being a millionaire.

It’s about achieving financial independence and being smarter with your money.

Having your money work for you.

One million dollars is just the beginning. It’s about living your life in a wealthier way.

Some people say they don’t care for money.

Some think you need to be greedy to be a millionaire, or that you have to ‘sell your soul’ to be rich.

None of this is true.

Money is a tool, it’s a mechanism of exchange.

It’s as simple as that - it helps you achieve what you want in life.

I want freedom as soon as possible.

That’s my motivation. What’s yours?
